Experience Malaysia’s answer to Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni. During specific low tides, a sandbar off Kuala Selangor emerges and forms a thin film of water that reflects the sky so perfectly it looks like you’re walking on clouds. This shimmering “mirror” sits about 1.74 nautical miles off the fishing village of Jeram in the middle of the Straits of Malacca. Most of the time it is submerged and only appears when the tide is low, which is why it has been nicknamed Malaysia’s “Mirror of the Sky”. The shallow sandbar teems with sea and baby clams and provides otherworldly photo opportunities. The Sky Mirror Tour, Kuala Selangor lasts around 2.5 hours and costs about RM 90. Boats depart from the (Official Jetty) Sky Mirror Kuala Selangor as early as 6 AM, timed precisely with the tides.

What you must bring

  • Sun protection & bright clothes: There is no shade on the sandbar. Wear long sleeves, a hat or umbrella and reef‑safe sunscreen; colourful outfits and props make for spectacular photos.
  • Mosquito repellent, water & snacks: Pack repellent, plenty of water and snacks; the operator provides light refreshments but the heat can be intense.
  • Spare clothes & towel: You’ll wade through shallow water; bring a towel and change of clothes for the return journey.
  • Props & camera gear: Props help create clever reflections; carry a power bank and waterproof pouch to protect devices.

Key things to know

  • Tide‑dependent schedule: The Sky Mirror appears only on certain days around the 1st and 15th of the lunar month. Departure times vary between 6 AM and 5:30 PM. Check the timetable and book early.
  • Boat access only: You cannot drive to the sandbar. All tours leave from the official jetty; full passenger details are required for legal compliance.

Journey & stay: It takes about 30 minutes by boat to reach the sandbar. Once there, you have roughly 60–90 minutes on the beach to take photos and explore.

Environment & marine life: The sandbar is home to sea and baby clams. Do not collect shells or marine organisms and always bring your rubbish back.
